CANADIAN ROCKIES

Canadian Rockies Field Study Program 2011

A program of International Institute of Field Studies

with the involvement of Town of Hinton, Alberta, Canada

(Limited enrollment. Cost: Canadian $3,900.00)

International Institute of Field Studies, with involvement of Town of Hinton, is offering a field study program for international development professionals in the Canadian Rockies region of Western Canada.

The main focus of the program is the study and experience of environmental, developmental and cultural issues in the Western Canada. Participants will get a chance to learn about the technology advances, natural resources management practices, natural resources planning and operations, research initiatives, both industrial and community oriented activities and Canadian culture.

The academic component of the program is conducted through a series of seminars, workshops and discussions with government, non-governmental, and academic institutions. Activities include visit to Alberta Legislature, International and Inter-governmental Division, Alberta Research Council, Canadian Forest Service, Alberta Sustainable Resource Development, Hinton Training Centre, Foothills Research Institute, Town of Hinton, West Fraser pulp and saw mills, Coal mine, Oil and gas site, Jasper and Banff National Parks, and University of Alberta. Other activities include, hiking in the Rockies, canoeing, hotspring, attend sport event, museum and art centres.

This program is designed for international development professionals but is open to everyone, such as students, teachers and others interested in Canadian Rockies region of Western Canada. Participants arrive in Edmonton and the program runs for 16 days. The core of the program will be conducted through a series of workshops and discussions in Hinton Training Centre and field visits in Hinton, Jasper, Banff, Edmonton and Calgary area.
